Overwhelming and Amazing...

I am in DC now. Keeping pretty busy, I have to admit. I have gotten lost numerous times. Have you seen this place?!

(Picture from dailypress.com)

I am here for a couple of weeks working. It's an honor to be in such a place, honestly it is. I just had lunch with a friend and she pointed out to me where that plane hit the building. Crazy how life has changed so much in 9 years. Yet 9 years does not seem that long ago.

Well back to work I go...assuming I don't get lost doing it!

Two posts in one day! Watch out! Today is an important day and I wanted to tell you why...

Twelve years ago today I left for Navy Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL.

I did have Sneaky Momma ask me why I joined the Navy...she's not the first and certainly not the last. I really joined the Navy a little yes then a year before I actually departed my home. My recruiter showed up at my door one day, she came into our house and talked to my parents and I about what the Navy had to offer. It was obviously my decision to make...so I asked her if I could think about it and I would get back to her. I decided that this was a HUGE decision not to be made lightly. I decided to pray on it to see what God had in store, for even me, a 17 year old girl. I was in school for Cosmetology and finishing up High School. I had some sort of a plan, or at least I thought I did!

My prayers led me to calling my recruiter back and signing the papers!

I have lived in Washington State. Where I was stationed on the USS CAMDEN. That ship taught me many things and also took me many places. Washington is also the place where Firefly was born!

I moved from there to Nevada. Nevada gave me some of the best friends I will ever have. It is also the state in which Wire Nut was born!

From there I moved to Virginia for a year before I was hired to head to Hawaii. When out in Hawaii I had plenty of other opportunities to travel and see some of the world that I hadn't seen yet. I made great friends and my life changed tremendously!

Then on to Virginia again. Where I spent my last two years.

Sometimes I can't believe that 12 years have flown by. My mom will call at some point today and tell me I left her this day 12 years ago. As I type this it makes me tear up a bit. I have grown. I have missed life events with my family. I look forward to what is to come, kind of nervous, but I will make it!

I will leave you with this picture from a couple of weeks ago. It was taken during my award ceremony before we left Virginia....

Thanks for reading a little more about me!

A Challenge...

So C.C. challenged me with this a little bit ago. I am getting to it tonight. So here it is.

The 6th picture in my 6th folder. I wasn't sure if it should be 2009 or just folders. So I went with just folders. Here is what I came up with...

This one makes me smile! I forgot about this picture. It came from my 2006 folder. This is my friend and my recruiter. She retired when I was stationed in Hawaii and I had the great opportunity to be in her ceremony. She lives back in NY where I grew up and she is one great person. I love this picture for many reasons. Because she is great! Because it was a good day.

So there ya go! Would you like to join in? Go ahead. I would tag you, but you know what I am going to bed so just let me know if you do it! Have a great Tuesday!

Make me dance!

video

This "video" is made for the female's in the Navy so they may wear the new uniform correctly. Who is that in the video? Why am I posting about this? Umm...because it's me! Yep...I got to be a model a couple months ago. The biggest bonus of this was being able to wear the uniform almost a year early. The not bonus...every move I make took 36 pictures. But I had to do it twice! Holding still...not my forte. Just thought I would let ya'll see what I wear everyday.

P.S. The end is kind of weird...it fast forwards through the end of it for some reason.

Those days...

So I am sitting here reading Not Me Mondays! Cause they are great! Logged onto Yahoo Messenger and someone I was stationed with way back my first couple of years in the Navy sent me this picture. I would say that I am on my way back from the Persian Gulf (because I am tan as ever. Plus I really wouldn't mind if I could have the patience to grown my hair back out again!

But anywho...I am talking to my parents I am sure, because that is all I called when we were gone! Phones didn't come up that often, those were the days they just got phones. As you can see by my head there is a piece of paper. I think that may have been telling of when and how long the phones will be up. But you had to have a phone card, which weren't always in supply because of demand (obviously). I tell you what a 20 minute phone card maybe lasted 5-10 minutes at most. I would spend some good money for phone cards just to talk to them! Anywho, that was a walk down memory lane. Going back to Not Me Monday's!

Good days...good shopping

Okay just posting because I just want to...it's my blog :) LOL!

Anywho...nothing much going on in our house. Been getting all my Christmas shopping done so I can get them in the mail. Christmas cards are done and waiting to be addressed.

Got my eval at work today. Good stuff maynard. Always excited when I hear that I am doing a good job. Now only if at home I could just sleep in that extra 5 minutes without someone fighting I would be SET!

Anywho...I went to the Exchange last night. BOY AM I EXCITED!! I finally bought the Adobe Photo shop program. I can't wait to create some pretty neat projects. I think tonight may be pizza night so I can play on the computer while the kids watch a movie. Hmm...I feel an addiction coming on. Oh and I know I previously posted about the
honor roll kid but wanted to say that she did get her report card...and although because of work I can't be with her at school today as she gets her certificate from the Principal. I am so super proud of her for being on the honor roll for the first quarter. She says that she wanted to do it so I would be proud of her. GUESS WHAT?! I AM ONE PROUD MAMA!! Although, no bumper stickers for the soccer mom van. HA!

Tomorrow the kids and I are going to do our
Operation Christmas Child so we can hand it in at Church on Sunday. They are excited to do this and I am excited to teach them why we are doing it. So since God has blessed me with a girl and a boy...they get to do a girl and a boy box :)

Well I hope you have a good weekend. See ya here the next post!
